WICHITA—The Wichita State track and field kicked off a week full of action with the multi events of the KT Woodman Classic inside of Cessna Stadium on Wednesday.
Maria Romero and
Anna Heacock were the only Shockers in uniform and set new personal bests in multiple events.
At the end of the first day of competition, Romero is in second place with 2,831 points and Heacock sits in fourth place with 2,742 points.
All-in-all the Shockers saw five new personal bests. Heacock set three new personal-best marks (100-meter hurdles, high jump, 200 meters) and Romero had two personal-best performances (100-meter hurdles, high jump).
The personal bests came early for Romero and Heacock with solid times in the 100-meter hurdles. Romero came in second with a time of 14.59 and Heacock was third with a time of 14.64. Both times set new personal bests.
Both Romero and Heacock set personal bests in the high jump as well. Romero cleared 1.54m/5-0.50 to tie for fifth and Heacock cleared 1.51m/4-11.50 to tie for seventh.
The shot put didn't see any personal bests for the Shockers, but Romero and Heacock both finished in the top 15 of the event. Romero took fourth with a toss of 10.29m/33-9.25 and Heacock took 14th with a throw of 8.82m/28-11.25.
Romero and Heacock closed out the day with the 200 meters. Heacock earned another personal best with a time of 26.34. Her effort earned a third-place finish in the event. Romero took sixth with a time of 26.90.
The conclusion of the multi events begins at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Track and field events for the KT Woodman Classic start at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
