RALEIGH, N.C. – Wichita State's Elkana Kipruto opened up his outdoor campaign with a school record-breaking win Thursday evening at the Raleigh Relays.
In a field of 227 runners including five other American Conference athletes, the sophomore from Kapsabet, Kenya claimed the 5,000-meter title, running a personal-best time of 13:35.77.
Kipruto broke
Adrian Diaz Lopez's school record from set a season ago and is just the second Shocker in history to break the 14-minute barrier in the outdoor 5,000 meters.
Wichita State junior
Kelvin Kipyego joined Kipruto on the Shocker all-time top-10 list, running 14:07.33, the fourth-fastest time in program history, to finish 45
th.
