Michael Bryan Breaks Hammer Throw School Record for Third Consecutive Week

WICHITA—The Wichita State track and field teams returned home to Cessna Stadium for the Wichita State Open on Saturday and saw success all around the track.
 
Director of Track and Field and Cross Country said he saw a lot of good things on Saturday.
 
"I was really happy with the run from Tanner Brown in the 100 meters," Rainbolt said. "We had some really good 800-meter races. I was pleased with the women's sprinters. Dowdy Elazarig had a really nice long jump.
 
"All around the track we had good things happen. I feel like we had a nice, solid track meet."
 
Michael Bryan broke the school record in the men's hammer throw again on Saturday. He broke the record for the third week in a row. Bryan's toss of 70.15m/230-2 earned him the win. 
 
Bryan sits at No. 5 in the nation after his record-breaking performance. The AAC Athlete of the Week now leads the conference and is second in the West Region.
 
"I'm obviously really excited about Michael Bryan," Rainbolt said. "He just keeps getting better and better. He's having a special season. They're even more special because he has worked so hard and come so far. He's improved so much since he got here."
 
Tanner Brown ran a time of 10.47 in the 100 meters, which puts him at No. 6 in the conference and in the top 70 nationally.
 
Dowdy Elazarig had a personal-best jump in the long jump. He jumped 7.38m/24-2.50. He moves into a tie for 68th in the NCAA this season and is second in the AAC.
 
The men in the 800 meters all fared well for the Shockers. Zack Penrod, Jed Helker, Josh Cable and Adam Moore went 2-4-5-6. Josh Cable set a new personal best with a time of 1:53.68.
 
On the women's side, the Shockers saw stellar effort from Yazmine Wright who won the 800 meters with a time of 2:10.85. She went on to rabbit for the 1,500 meters, but decided to finish the race, coming in second on the shoulder of teammate Rebekah Topham for second in 4:23.33. Topham was close to a new personal best in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:23.22.
 
Jacque Darby showed her versatility again, running the 200 meters in a time of 24.67 for third place, but also took second in the long jump with a mark of 5.70m/18-8.50.
 
Paula Garcia won the 100 meters in 11.68. She also took second in the 200 meters with a time of 24.23.
 
Taniyah McMillian (400 meters), Anycia Cole (100-meter hurdles) and Claudia Rojo (400-meter hurdles) also got individual victories on the track.
 
Wichita State is back at home next weekend for the KT Woodman Classic. The KT Woodman Multis are set for Wednesday and Thursday while the KT Woodman Classic is slated for an all-day affair on Saturday.
