Last Time Out
The Shockers took a week off, but last competed on Feb. 12. at the Division I Challenge in Topeka.
Jed Helker won the men's Mile with a time of 4:06.03. His time put him at No. 6 all-time on the Wichita State indoor performance list.
Helker continued his momentum after earning all-conference honors in cross country the week before.
Winny Koskei brought her success over from cross country season. She won the women's 5,000 meters with a time of 16:32.95.
Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Steve Rainbolt said the Shockers had some very good performances but also had some learning experiences.
"The Championship at the Peak two weeks from now will be a nice finish for most of our team to this indoor season and I think today can help us prepare for that if we learn lessons from this experience," Rainbolt said.

On goals and expectations for this weekend
"This is not an AAC event, but we are doing all we can to treat this meet like a team championship. Our hope is that we can rehearse team track and field this weekend and be a better championship track and field operation when we line up for the AAC Outdoor meet in May in Tampa, Florida. We also are excited that the Shocker track and field athletes are going to have a once in a lifetime experience in Colorado Springs at a meet that has a really interesting mix of teams from literally all over the western half of the United States."

From the Grass to the Track
The majority of the Wichita State cross country team's season is over, but a lot of Shocker success has carried over onto the track.
Winny Koskei didn't miss a beat at the Division I Challenge. She won the 5,000 meters in 16:32.95. Her time is the 41st-best in the NCAA this season. Koskei still has one race (the NCAA Cross Country Championships) before she makes the full transition to the track.
All-conference honoree Jed Helker continued the momentum from his breakout cross country campaign. He won the men's Mile in Topeka with a time of 4:06.03. His time is No. 6 in Wichita State history.
Yazmine Wright has shown her range as a Shocker and did once again at the Division I Challenge. She finished third and broke the 5-minute barrier with a time of 4:57.00.
The Shocker distance crew has shown they will be ready for the track after a season full of impressive performances on the cross country course.
