IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The Wichita State women's tennis team gets its first major test of the Fall season at this weekend's ITA Central Region Championships.

Action from the University of Iowa's Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Center begins Thursday morning and concludes Monday, Oct. 25.

Wichita State is one of 28 schools competing in the regional. The doubles champion and each of the two singles finalists earn automatic bids to next month's ITA National Fall Championships in San Diego.

WSU's Lingwei Kong has already earned an automatic berth in the main singles draw. Four other Shockers -- Jessie Zheng, Clara Witaker, Nastumi Kurahashi and Harriet Hamilton – will take part in qualifying matches in hopes of joining her in the field-of-96.

A total of 80 teams are entered in the doubles portion. For the Shockers, Kong will pair with Vitalia Stamat, Whitaker teams up with Kurahashi, and Zheng will play alongside Bianca Rademacher.

Official draws are due out Wednesday evening. For updates schedules, scores and live streaming of select matches, visit the tournament central page.
