SAN DIEGO — Wichita State's
Xin Tong Wang and
Giorgia Roselli suffered their first defeat in nearly a month, falling to Virginia's No. 9-ranked duo of Melodie Collard and Vivian Yang in the semifinals Saturday at Barnes Tennis Center.
Â
The loss sends Wang and Roselli to the third-place match, where they will have one final chance to earn a bid to the 2025 NCAA Doubles Championship later in November.
Â
In the first set, Virginia took control early, turning a 3-1 lead into 5-3, but the Shockers gave themselves a chance with two game points. The Cavaliers ultimately fought them off to take the set 6-3.
Â
In the second set, Collard and Yang again built an early lead that the Shockers could not overcome, winning 6-2 to advance to the championship match.
Â
The loss to Collard and Yang was the Shocker pair's first since an 8-2 defeat to Oklahoma's Julia Garcia-Ruiz and Barakat Quadre on Oct. 16 at the ITA Central Regionals. It also ended a six-match win streak.
Â
The Shockers will face Furman's Lillie Murphy and Elle Warren at 11 a.m. CT in the third-place match. The winner earns the final bid to the NCAA Doubles Championship, set for Nov. 19–23 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
