Madison Slayton sank a 30-foot birdie putt to win her match and clinch the Shocker Cup for Team Walton on Thursday afternoon at Willowbend Golf Club, wrapping up three days of friendly intrasquad competition among Wichita State's men's and women's golfers.
 
Team Walton and Team McCurdy split 11 head-to-head matches in Thursday's finale, 5-5-1.
 
Among the days' highlights was a battle between Zac Owens and Dawson Lewis, last season's stroke average leaders. Both played at a high level, with Owens (-11) edging out Lewis (-7) to give Team Walton another key point.
 
Walton's group captured the majority of matches on Tuesday at Wellington Golf Club and Wednesday at Tallgrass to win the Shocker Cup, 13.5 to 9.5 overall.
 
"It was great to have three days of competition," Walton said. "It was a lot of fun. But the biggest thing was the relationships that were built between the two programs."
 
Head men's coach Judd Easterling added: "In these times of uncertainty, Shocker Cup provided a great escape. The goal was to create a sense of competition and camaraderie in a positive environment, and we succeeded. The weather was great. The coaches all got to play, and we had a blast."
 
"The moment we finished adding the scores, kids on both sides were already asking when we can do it again."
