Biography
2020-21 (Redshirt Senior):
Southern Illinois transfer played some of his best golf at the end of the year… Competed in each of the last four events with a pair of top-20 finishes, including a tie for 15th-place at the American Athletic Conference Championship… 74.3 season stroke average across 12 rounds… Carded 26 birdies… Set a season-best and tied for low-scoring honors among the field with a 3-under, 69 in the second round of the American Championship at Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville, Fla… Finished under par in each of the last two rounds at the Missouri Tiger Invitational (Apr. 15-16) and tied for 14th out of 78 golfers… Winner of the Men’s Golf Team Leadership Award at the WSU’s 2021 Gold Carpet Awards.
AT SOUTHERN ILLINOIS (2016-20):
- Led team with a 73.0 stroke average as a senior — the 6th-lowest in school history.
- Ranks 4th in school history with 8 career rounds in the 60's.
- His career stroke average of 74.88 is 9th in SIU history.
- Started his collegiate career with a sixth-place finish at the Murray State.
- Invitational, where he was 6-under par, including a 64 in the first round, which tied the school record for best 18-hole score.
- Tied for 2nd place (-7) out of 95 golfers at the 2019 Racer Invitational.
- Tied for 2nd place (-8) out of 70 golfers at the 2018 Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational.
- Had best finish of his sophomore year at the Pinetree Intercollegiate, where he tied for fifth out of 61 golfers with rounds 70 and 74.
- Competed at the 2019 Louisville NCAA Regional.
- Opened 2019-20 season with four-straight top-30 finishes in tournament action.
- Tied for 22nd place at the 2017 Seminole Intercollegiate at 3-under par (70-72-71).
HIGH SCHOOL:
Average score was 70.4 per round… Team was top-5 in the state three out of four years… Named All-Conference all four years and All-State all four years… Placed 4th overall at the state tournament as a sophomore, 2nd overall at the state tournament as junior and 3rd as a senior... Won 16 individual tournaments… Also played basketball... Honor Roll all 4 four years...Community-service volunteer for the homeless shelter of St. Louis.
PERSONAL:
Son of Scott and Lelah Thomas… Is an only child… Born March 6, 1998… Predominantly right-handed but golfs left-handed... Earned his bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University where he double-majored in finance and marketing and will pursue an MBA at Wichita State.
