SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Wichita State completed the NCAA West Regional, Saturday night at Hornet Stadium.

Day three of the NCAA West Regional did not see as much success as Day Two for the Shockers. Wichita State failed to advance any athletes to the NCAA Championships, despite entering the final day of competition with nine athletes in seven different individual events and two relays in action.

The Shockers closest chance in punching a ticket on day three came from middle distance runner
Zack Penrod finishing one spot out of the top-12, placing 13th in the men's 1500m with a time of 3:43.07. Penrod opened the race running the first 300m in 45.23, followed by splits of 1:00.65, 1:00.28 and finishing the last 400m in 56.92.

Wichita State recorded two other top-20 finishes, including Kelse Slawson in women's shot put.

The Paola, Kan., native started the competition strong with a mark of 15.25m/50-0.5 on her first attempt, followed by her next attempt landing at 15.30m/50-2.5 and ending with her competition best mark of 15.92m/52-2.75.

Taniyah McMillian,
Sidney Sapp and
Jacque Darby finished seventh in heat three and 20th overall with a time of 45.70, the ninth fastest in Shocker history.

TICKETS PUNCHED
Three Shockers will done the yellow and black at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Austin, Texas, beginning June 5-8.
Ben Johnson automatically qualified in the decathlon with top-24 national ranking in the decathlon with a season best score of 7,413. Teammates

Rebekah Topham punched tickets in their respective events on day two action of the NCAA West Regional, True placed third in the javelin with a toss of 71.30m/233-11 and Topham finished 11th in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:53.92.

Johnson will compete June 5-6, while True will throw the javelin Wednesday, June 5 at 6:45 p.m., and Topham will run her 3000m steeplechase semifinal on Thursday, June 6 at 7:32 p.m.
