LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kendra Henry and the men's 4x800m came away with event titles, while multiple Shockers advanced to Saturday's finals, in day three action of the 92nd Kansas Relays Friday, April 19, at Rock Chalk Park.
 
The men's 4x800m relay team of 
Jason Landon, 
Zack Penrod, 
Connor Stine and 
Jed Helker recorded the Shockers' first event title at the 92nd Kansas Relays. The quartet combined to win the race with a time of 7:50.37, a full second faster than Cloud County Community College.
 
Kendra Henry recorded the second event title of the day for Wichita State winning the javelin on her first attempt with a throw of 42.99m/141-0. Henry's second attempt mimicked her first attempt landing at nearly the same spot, 42.98m/141-0. In the finals Henry recorded marks of 42.83m/140-6 and 39.97m/131-1, before fouling her last attempt.
 
Success continued for the women's team in field events as 
Sidney Sapp, 
Alesa Frey, 
Kelsey Slawson and 
Amiya Anoma each recorded top-3 finishes in their respective event finals.
 
Kelsey Slawson placed second in the women's shot put with a mark of 15.32m/50-3.25. On her first attempt, Slawson recorded a competition leading mark of 14.76m/48-5.25, followed by her competition best mark of 15.32m/50-3.25 on her second attempt.
 
In the final round of throws, Julie Brown, competing unattached, recorded a mark equaled to Slawson's. By rule the competition is decided by looking at each thrower's second best mark, resulting in Slawson finishing second with a mark of 14.83m/48-8 as Brown placed first with a mark of 14.95m/49-0.75.
 
Anoma came away with a second place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 12.41m/40-8.75. The true freshman fouled her first two attempts, before recording a mark of 12.03m/39-5.75 to advance to the finals. She fouled her first attempt, before recording her competition best jump of 12.41m/40-8.75.
 
Shockers finishing third include, Sapp in the high jump with a Shocker season-leading height of 1.70m/5-7 and Frey clearing 3.80m/12-5.5 in the pole vault.
 
SURVIVE AND ADVANCE
Multiple Shockers from both the men's and women's teams advanced to Saturday's finals, including both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays from each team. The women's team advanced 10 Shockers between the 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 200m and 400m, while 
Joseph Holthusen and 
Austin Corley were the only Shocker men to advance in an individual event.
 
Corley won the fifth heat of the 400m hurdles with the fastest overall preliminary time of 51.73, while Holthusen continues to turn heads as a freshman. The Bishop Carrol graduate recorded the fourth fastest preliminary time in the 110m hurdles winning the first heat in 14.58.
 
The Shocker women found their most success in the hurdles, advancing five between the two events. 
Anycia Cole ran a personal best time of 1:02.35 to win the third heat, the true freshman clocked the second fastest preliminary time of the competition. Fellow Shockers 
Claudia Rojo and 
Alexi Whatley advanced in the race, Rojo ran the fourth fastest time (1:02.88) and Whatley ran the eighth fastest (1:03.49).
 
Rojo not only advanced in the 400m hurdles, but she'll be running in the 100m hurdles after qualifying with a time of 14.50. Teammate 
Sydney Wilson advanced with a time of 14.54.
Shockers advanced three in the 200m, led by 
Paula Garcia recording the preliminary fourth fastest time of 24.05. 
Jacque Darby followed in sixth equaling her personal best time of 24.14, while 
Taniyah McMillian clocked in at 24.25.
 
Daysha Bullocks and 
Tianna Holmes each qualified to the finals of the 400m dash, Bullocks led the way finishing with the seventh fastest preliminary time of 55.69 and Holmes followed with a time of 55.79.
 
The women's 4x100m team of Sapp, McMillian, Darby and Garcia recorded the fastest preliminary time of 45.75. The squad bettered their No. 10 Shocker all-time top-10 mark by .09 seconds. The men's 4x100m relay team followed suit advancing to the finals as well. The group of 
Denvoir Griffin, Holthusen, 
Rayvon Allen and 
Clifford Robinson III combined to clock a time of 41.79.
 
In the 4x400m, the women's team of 
Trudy Martin, Garcia, Cole and Bullocks ran 3:50.80, while the men's team of 
Jace Coppoc, 
Adam Gauzy, 
Adam Mudge and Allen ran 3:16.95. Each advanced to the finals.
 
Day four of the 92nd Kansas Relays continues Saturday, April 20, beginning with track events at 10:10 a.m., followed by field events at 11:00 a.m.
