CHASING 600Â
Wichita State enters the 2019-20 campaign with an all-time record of 596-685, needing just four wins to reach 600. They would become the
10th program in the American Athletic Conference with 600 or more victories. UCF (595) is right on the doorstep to 600 as well - needing only six wins to reach the milestone. Tulsa (350) is the only other active member shy of that mark.
LAST TIME OUT
Wichita State dropped its second straight game to open the season after a 79-66 loss at Oral Roberts Monday night. ORU now leads the all-time series, 12-9. Wichita State knocked down seven three-pointers in 21 tries after making only one in the opener, and shot 42.6 percent overall, but it wasn't enough to keep up with ORU's 13 three-pointers. The Golden Eagles also hit 16-of-17 attempts from the free throw line, while WSU was only 1-of-5. Freshman
DJ McCarty provided a huge boost off the bench in her first career road game, dropping 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Sophomores
Carla Bremaud and
Jaida Hampton added 15 and 11 points, respectively.
SCOUTING THE JAGUARS
Southern is 2-1 to open the season after wins against Wiley (78-55) and Tougaloo (100-39) and a loss to Iowa State (36-69). The Jaguars are led by Brittany Rose's 16.0 points and 3.3 assists per game. Genovea Johnson posts 10.0 points and 3.0 steals a game on 50 percent shooting. Johnson's nine steals through three games rank 28th nationally. As a team, Southern is scoring 71.3 points and holding its opponents to only 54.3. The Jaguars rank nationally in the top 10 in steals (3rd), turnover margin (9th), turnovers forced (9th) and three-point defense (10th).
BUCKETS FOR BREMAUDÂ
A season ago,
Carla Bremaud led the Shockers in scoring and was selected for the American Athletic Conference All-Freshman Team, becoming the first freshman to lead Wichita State in scoring for a season since Kiki Stephens in 2004-05. Now a sophomore,
Bremaud will look to carry that momentum into 2019-20, while also coming off a summer with the French U20 National Team.
A SHOCKER WIN WOULD...
... make them 1-2 on the season
... snap a three-game losing streak dating back to last season
... give them a 1-0 lead in the series vs. Southern
... run Adams' career coaching record to 438-283
... make Adams 311-246 at the Division I level
... make WSU 366-231 all-time in Charles Koch Arena
... make Wichita State 597-685 all-time
A SHOCKER LOSS WOULD...
... drop them to 0-3 to begin the season
... extend their losing skid to four in a row
... drop WSU to 0-1 vs. Southern
... lower Adams' career coaching record to 437-284
... make Adams 310-247 at the Division I level
... make WSU 365-232 all-time in Charles Koch Arena
... make Wichita State 596-686 all-time
