Shockers Tally Six Wins on Day One of All-Americans

TULSA, Okla. – The Wichita State men's tennis team collected six wins in the first and second rounds of pre-qualifying, Saturday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center and Union Center.
 
Seniors Eddie Stoica and Andrea Caligiana collected two wins each, along with Murkel Dellien.
 
In first round action, Dellien caught fire early to roll past Pat Harper of Tennessee (6-3, 6-1). The junior from Bolivia took on (9-16) Nick Borchenko of Loyola Marymount in second round play. After dropping the first (6-3), Dellien rallied to win the final two sets (6-1, 6-4) and clinch a spot in the Round of 64.
 
Caligiana joined Dellien in the Round of 64 with wins over Ryan Hedley of Lousiville and Barnabas Koncz of Oral Roberts. A native of Perugia, Italy, Caligiana won in three sets over Hedley (6-4, 2-6, 6-3) and rolled to the third round with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Koncz.
 
Stoica ended the action Saturday evening for WSU, becoming the final Shocker to reach the third round. After knocking off Anu Kodali of North Carolina (6-1, 2-6, 6-4) Stoica won in straight sets (6-3, 7-5) over UMKC's Tom Kruse.
 
Freshman Orel Ovil fell to Diego Finkelstein of Georgia Southern in first round action (6-3, 6-2).
 
Third round action begins tomorrow morning with time TBA. Eddie Stoica takes on Hunter Tubert of Ohio State. Dellien faces the winner of Ryan Mueller of Wake Forest and Niklas Gerdes of Chattanooga. Caligiana takes on Collin Markes of Texas and Hugo Piles of Nebraska-Omaha.
