Griffin Finishes Second at WSU Multi

Juniors Kaden Griffin and Colin Reichenberger placed second and fourth in the decathlon of the Wichita State Multi at Cessna Stadium Thursday evening.

Griffin finished the multi-event competition with a personal best 6,851 points and Reichenberger scored 6,399 points.

In the first event of the day, 110m hurdles, the Shocks finished with four in the top five. Reichenberger won with a personal best time of 14.65, junior Ben Johnson finished second running 14.98, freshman Grant Downes ran 15.61 to place fourth and Griffin finished fifth with a time of 15.63. In the discus, Johnson finished third with a throw of 39.72m/130-4 and Downes finished fifth with a mark of 33.31m/109-3.75.

The Shockers placed three athletes in the top five of the pole vault, led by Johnson who finished third clearing 4.35m/14-3.25. Griffin took fourth clearing 3.55m/11-7.75 and Reichenberger placed fifth with a height of 4.05m/13-3.5.

After eight events Johnson was in second place with 5,620 points, 384 points behind leader Tyler Grob (unattached). Johnson elected to not compete in the final two events in preparation for the Texas Relays next week.

In the final two events Griffin placed in the top five, including a fifth place finish in the javelin (49.03m/160-10.5) and a first place finish in the 1500m with a personal best time of 4:35.70.

Lucas Shaffer finished the day setting three personal best, including an overall personal best in the decathlon with 6,089 points. Shaffer set personal best in the discus (31.34m/102-10.25) and javelin (44.04m/144-6.25).

Due to injury Carlea Miles and Kendra Henry did not complete the full heptathlon, Miles competed in the javelin winning the event with a throw of 42.93m/140-10.5. Competing unattached, Maria Romero finished the heptathlon fifth with a score of 4,208 points, Hannah Cole placed seventh (4,001) and Jalen Milligan ninth (3,897).

The Shockers are in action again this week competing at the Arkansas Spring Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark.
