Dellien's Run Ends at Central Regional

10/21/2018 12:36:00 PM

TULSA, Okla. – Wichita State junior Murkel Dellien's historic run came to an end Sunday in the semifinals of ITA Central Regionals at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

Dellien, who compiled a 4-1 record at the regional, took on Iowa's Kareem Allaf in what was a battle until the final point. In the end, Allaf came out ahead, winning 7-6 (3), 1-6, 6-2.

In the first, Dellien and Allaf traded games early, before going to a tiebreaker. Allaf jumped out to a big lead in the tiebreaker to take the set (7-6(3). Dellien turned it up a notch in the second set, rolling past Allaf in a quick one, 6-1.

Allaf grabbed an early break in the third and never looked back, taking the set (6-2) over Dellien.

Dellien accomplished many feats during the Regional, including knocking off two ranked opponents and reaching the semifinal for the first time since Shocker All-American Phil Cooper in 1995.

The Shockers will next be in action at an ITF Futures event in Niceville, Fla. Nov. 3-11.
