Wichita State Drops 5-2 Decision to Utah State

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Wichita State fell to the Utah State Aggies, 5-2, on Friday at Chandler Tennis Center.
 
The Shockers (0-2) lost the doubles point for the second time this season, but Luke Bracks and Zaid Al Mashni each earned singles wins against Utah State (1-0) to score points for Wichita State.
 
In doubles, the Shockers found themselves in another tight battle for the second time this season. Utah State struck first with a 6-4 win over Bracks and Alejandro Jacome, but Felix Bockelmann-Evans and Ilias Worthington responded with a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles, pushing the doubles point to be decided at court No. 3
 
At No. 3 doubles, Rodrigo Cruz and Pablo Roche Alcaya were unable to triumph in a dramatic tiebreak, losing 7-6 (7), clinching the doubles point for Utah State.
 
In singles, the Shockers rebounded to win four of the six first sets, with Jacome falling 6-2, 6-2 at court No. 1 to give the Aggies a 2-0 advantage. No. 66-ranked Al Mashni broke through at No. 4 singles, winning 6-1, 6-1 to get the Shockers on the board at 2-1. Utah State responded with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Roche Alcaya to move within one point of victory.
 
The Aggies clinched the match win with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 comeback victory over Ilias Worthington at No. 2 singles and added on by defeating Amir Milushev 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 at court No. 3 to take a 5-1 lead.
 
 Bracks closed the afternoon with a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 win at court No. 6, ending the match with a 5-2 score.
 
Next up
The Shockers return to action on Saturday in Chandler, Ariz., with a match against UNLV at noon,  followed by a matchup with New Mexico State at 4:00 PM.
