NORMAL, Ill. – The No. 49-ranked and top-seeded Wichita State women's tennis team swept #8 seed Stony Brook 4-0 this evening at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship tournament. WSU advances to the semifinals, and have now won 87 consecutive matches against Valley opponents.

The Shockers (16-8, 7-0 MVC) took the doubles point, starting with Marta Bellucco and Giulia Guidetti topping Ana Rodriguez and Amanda Foo 6-2 in the third flight. Ester Chikvashvili and Nadia Smergut responded with a 6-2 win over Tanaporn Thongsing and Ting-Ya Hsu in the second flight. Fatima Bizhukova and Gabriela Porubin secured the point by defeating Elizabeth Tsvetkov and Yana Nikolaeva 6-2 in the top flight. Bizhukova and Porubin are now 17-6 when playing in the top doubles flight.

In singles play, Bizhukova kicked things off with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Chikvashvili in the third flight. A No. 4 singles flight all-conference selection, Bizhukova has now won 12-straight matches. No. 3 All-MVC selection Porubin defeated Nadia Smergut 6-4, 6-2 in the fourth flight. Guidetti, the 2017 MVC Player of the Year, closed out the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Tsvetkov. Thongsing, Hsu and Bellucco led their matches before going unfinished.

Wichita State will take on #4-seed Evansville tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the semifinals. Evansville defeated #5 Drake 4-2 this morning to advance.
