DALLAS, Texas - The Wichita State tennis team wrapped up its final fall tournament Sunday, collecting four wins at the SMU Red and Blue Challenge.

"It was a very productive weekend , and fall, for us. We continue to grow in doubles and compete hard in singles," head coach Colin Foster said.
The Shockers took on American opponent Tulsa in doubles play, and SMU in singles action.

In the No. 1 slot, the Shocker  tandem of Fatima Bizhukova and Gabriela Porubin took on Laskutova and Matoula of Tulsa and won, 7-5 to start the day for WSU.
In the No. 2 slot, Sarvi Saidhujaeva and Marta Bellucco took on Okalova and Ploener. The Shocker duo was defeated, 6-2. Rounding up the lineup in doubles, freshman Alexandra Lazarova and Ting-Ya Hsu clinched a victory over Poppe and Kupkova, 6-3.

In singles action, Wichita State switched up their lineup at the bottom of the order, and collected two wins.  Bizhukova, who ranks No 102,  earned her second win of the weekend-and best win of the fall- defeating Liza Buss of SMU 6-1, 6-0. Buss is ranked No. 77 in the ITA preseason rankings.  In the No. 2 slot, Porubin took on Perez and lost a tight on in three sets, 6-4, 6-7, 6-4.  Belluco took her only loss of the weekend against Shapovalova, 6-3, 6-4. In the No. 4 spot, Saidhujaeva faced Traxler and came up just short, 6-7, 6-1, 6-2. Hsu played in the five spot for WSU, and lost to Hollebeck, 6-1, 6-4. Lazarova defeated Petchey of SMU in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.

"We lost several close sets today but that wasn't for a lack of effort," said Foster. " A lot of these matches all weekend could have gone either way and for the most part we were winning those most competitive sets and matches."

The Shockers will next be in action Jan. 19-20 when they travel back to Dallas to take on Stephen F. Austin and SMU to kick off the spring slate.
