DES MOINES, Iowa – A three-run home run by Liz Broyles in the top of the seventh inning, was enough to lead the Shockers to a 7-4 victory over Drake in the third and final game of the series, sweeping the Bulldogs and taking over first place in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Katie Malone got the start in the circle, throwing 2.1 innings and allowing four runs while striking out two. Jenni Brooks finished the game, throwing 4.2 innings and allowing just two hits and zero runs and receiving her 15th win of the season.

Drake struck first in the bottom of the first inning on a single up the middle from Kailee Smith to score two runs and make the score 2-0 heading into the second inning.

In the top of the third, Ashley Johnson led off with a triple, followed by a single from Brittany Fortner. Paige Luellen received her 39th walk of the season, setting a new Wichita State single season record. Both Luellen and Cacy Williams came around to score in the third to make the score 4-2.

The Bulldogs responded in the bottom of the third, scoring two runs on three hits to tie the game at four heading into the fourth inning.

In the top of the seventh, with the score tied 4-4, Fortner led off with a single. Mackenzie Wright then moved her to second on a sacrifice bunt.
