Jared Belardo led Wichita State's list of 12 K.T. Woodman Track and Field Classic individual and relay champions Saturday at Cessna Stadium with personal bests in the long jump and triple jump.
Saturday's action wrapped up four days of high school competition in the Shocker Pre-State Classic and the 69th K.T. Woodman College Track and Field Classic. More than 70 high schools were entered in the Pre-State meet, while more than 40 collegiate, small college and junior colleges were represented in the K.T. Woodman. Close to 2,600 athletes competed during the four-day event.
Saturday's action was also highlighted by several Shocker champions as the Shockers won the team competition with 588 points on the men's side and 731 points on the women's side.
In the hammer throw,
Jamesia Milton set the meet record with a throw of 197-06 (60.19). Her throw also improved her personal best by seven-feet, six inches, which keeps her in third-place all-time at WSU.
All-American
Jared Belardo's long jump of 25-4.5 (7.73m) won the event and also tied for 16th-best in the country to date. Belardo won his second title of the day with a triple jump of 52-6.5 (16.01m), improving his personal best to the second-best in Shocker history. He now sits in second behind Randy Lewis' triple jump of 55-1.5 (16.80m) in 2003.
2015 NCAA qualifier
Weston Cottrell won the hammer throw with a distance of 206-9 (63.01m).
Jacob James won the men's 110 meter hurdles in a time of 14.27.
Sadie Suenram won the women's discus with a personal-best throw of 163-06 (49.84m) that moved her into third all-time at WSU.
Taylor Swanson won the pole vault with a height of 12-0.5 (3.67m) as the top finishing collegian. Shocker Track Club member Jamie Bookout vaulted 12-6.25 (3.82).
Claudia Rojo was the highest-finishing collegian in the women's 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.76.
Taylor Thomas backed her with a time of 1:02.01.
Rebekah Topham won the 800 meters with a time of 2:14.46. She also won the 3,000 meter steeplechase Friday night in the K.T. Woodman Distance Carnival with a time of 10:41.45.
The shuttle hurdles 4x100 relay team of Marteisha Caines,
Claudia Rojo,
Talia Highbarger and
Emily Doffing won in a time of 59.85.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team of
Marteshia Caines,
Taylor Thomas,
Lauren Pickens and
Taylor Larch-Miller won in a time of 3:53.14.
The men's 4x100 meter relay team of
Tucker Davis,
Rhys Powell,
Colton Mays and
Cody Scheck won the event in a time of 3:16.82 to wrap up the meet.
With the large number of entries, team scoring in the collegiate meet included individual placings 16 places deep. Point totals were 20-18-16-14-12-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1.
Shockers Set PRs/Top 10s at Friday's Distance Carnival4/15/16
WICHITA, Kan. -- Wichita State's distance runners and javelin throwers broke personal records Friday night at the K.T. Woodman at the Distance Carnival Friday night inside Cessna Stadium.
WSU freshman
Rebekah Topham ran the seventh-fastest 3,000 meter steeplechase in Shocker history and in her event debut.
Sidney Hirsch finished second in the 10,000 meters, running a debut time of 35:31.65, which is the sixth-best in Shocker history.
Lycia Hollon and
Jordan Maestas also ran personal bests of 36:28.51 and 38:26.99, respectively, to finish fourth and sixth in the 10,000.
In the javelin,
Chase Pote set a personal record by just under four feet as the highest collegiate finisher with a personal best throw of 216-3.25 (65.92m) on the Cessna Stadium infield. Pote finished just ahead of teammate
Dylan Reimer, whose throw of 211-11.25 (64.60m) was fourth overall and the second-best by a collegian.
K.T. Woodman 10,000 meter record-holder
Brady Johnson won the 2016 race in a time of 29:36.00, just over the record time of 29:21.39 he ran in 2015.
Sarah Wright finished fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.21, while
Kayla Deighan was sixth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:28.83.
Savannah Wright ran a 4:51.80 in the 1,500 meters to finish 10th overall, while
Kendra Schoening won her section of the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:58.00 to finish 12th overall.
In the women's javelin, WSU's
Carlea Holt threw 150-00 (45.73m) to finish fifth overall, one foot shy of her personal best of 151-7, which ranks fifth-best in Shocker history.
Emilea Finley won her section of the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:42.27.

High School Pre-State Live Results WICHITA, Kan. -- Wichita State's
Hunter Veith and
Gavyn Yetter won the Decathlon and Heptathlon, respectively, at the K.T. Woodman Track and Field Classic Thursday afternoon inside Cessna Stadium.
Veith scored 7,300 points in the two-day, 10-event multi competition, which was a personal best and the sixth-best point total in Shocker history.
In Thursday's five events, he won the pole vault with a height of 15-9 (4.80m), finished second in the 110 meter hurdles (15.04) and third in the 1,500 meters, the day's final event, in a time of 4:46.38. In between, the was seventh in the javelin (137-2/41.81m), restricted due to Tommy John surgery a year ago, and eighth in the discus with a throw of 104-0 (31.69m).
After the five-event first day, he had 3,999 points which included a personal record in the long jump of 24-6. Veith was second in the high jump at 6-8.25 (2.04m), third in the 100 meters (11.04) and fourth in the shot put (38-9.5/11.82m) and 400 meters (50.65).
Yetter, who scored 5,329 points in the seven-event competition, won the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.64 in the day's last event after a third-place finish in the long jump (17-11.75/5.46m) and second-place in the javelin (125-05/38.23) Thursday.
WSU's Carla Holt won the javelin with a throw of 146-8 (44.70m) and her teammate
Sierra Hays won the long jump with a distance of 18-1.5 (5.52m).
Leading after the Heptathlon first day,
Breanne Borman competed in the long jump (5.48m), but withdrew after the first event Thursday.
On Wednesday in the Heptathlon, Borman led teammate Yetter, 3,258 to 3,180, after the four women's events, while
Sierra Hays was fifth (2,987),
Carlea Holt was sixth (2,825),
Emily Doffing was eighth (2,792),
Ximena Cazenave was ninth (2,637).
Borman won the 100 hurdles (14.23) and high jump (5-7.25/1.71m) while Yetter won the shot put (41-04.25/12.60m) and the 200 meters (25.11) to end the first day.
Competing unattached,
Shania VanNoster was ninth (3,638), and
Lauren Rowland was 10th (3,393), overall.
Rounding out the Decathlon for WSU,
Seth Buck was fifth (6,357)
John Nicholas was sixth (6,294) and
Kyle Troxler was eighth (6,000) after the first day.
Ben Johnson was 10th (4,920) after not finishing the 110 hurdles and no-heighting in the pole vault.
Buck won the javelin with a personal record of 178-6 (54.40m) on Thursday.
On Wednesday,
Ben Johnson,
Seth Buck and
John Nicholas took the top four spots in the shot put with throws of 43-9.75, 40-9.75 and 40-1.25, respectively.
Yetter, whose 5,447 points at the Crowe Rice Multi-Events ranks 12th in the NCAA and 10th in the West Region, has the fourth-best total in Shocker history coming into the meet, while Borman's 2015 personal-best point total of 5,406 is the fifth-best ever at WSU.
The multi-events opened four days of track and field headlined by the 69th-Annual K.T. Woodman and the Shocker Pre-State High School meet.
More than 70 high schools are entered in the Pre-State meet, while more than 40 collegiate, small college and junior colleges will compete in the K.T. Woodman. Close to 2,600 athletes are scheduled to compete during the four-day event.
Division I schools include Kansas State, North Texas, UMKC and Oral Roberts, while the junior college entries include Iowa Central and Iowa Western, two of the top two-year schools in the country.
