NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Wichita State's
Ugis Jocis ran the third-best mile time in Shocker history with his personal best of 4:04.41, while
Rebekah Topham ran the seventh-best Shocker mile time with a 4:52.78 at the Meyo Invitational Saturday at the Loftus Sports Center.
Jocis improved his Top 10 mile time from 4:05.65 a year ago to his mark today to pass Pizza Hut Shocker Sports Hall of Fame member Randy Smith's 1974 time of 4:05.60. Only Alan Walker's 1973 time of 4:01.50 and Girts Azis' 2008 time of 4:01.80 sit in front of Jocis at No. 1 and 2, respectively.
Topham's time sits in seventh behind Karin Lindberg's 1988 time of 4:52.70. Kellyn Johnson holds the women's record in the mile at 4:35.35 set in 2009.
Sidney Hirsch's 3,000 meter time of 9:44.39 on Saturday helped her to a 20th-place finish, while
Emilea Finley was 27th with a 9:49.87.
Kayla Deighan was 39th in 9:57.21 and
Lycia Hollon was 52nd in 10:07.12 to round out the women's 3,000 meters.
In the men's 800 meters,
Reno Law was 31st in 1:54.13 and
Connor Stine was 38th in 1:55.29.
Also in the men's mile on Saturday,
Zack Penrod was 38th with a time of 4:12.25,
Reno Law was 43rd in 4:13.52 and
Nathan Wickoren was 68th in a time of 4:21.61. In the women's mile,
Savannah Wright ran a 5:12.23 to finish 74th.
In addition, volunteer assistant
Tomas Cotter ran the Meyo Mile and finished 14th with a time of 4:04.18.
On Friday, the Shocker Distance Medley Relay team of
Rebekah Topham,
Savannah Wright,
Emilea Finley and
Sidney Hirsch finished seventh in a time of 11:45.73. The time is the fourth-best in school history
In men's action at the Meyo Invitational,
Brady Johnson was fifth in the 5,000 meters in a time of 14:20.74 while
Paul Raymond was 13th in 14:34.72. Both times were personal bests but didn't improve their spot in the Top 10 as Jophnson's time is still fourth and Raymond's time is still seventh.
