Box Score (PDF)MOBILE, Ala. – Coming off a sweep on day two, the Wichita State softball team defeated Bowling Green, 11-3 in five innings to post a 4-0 record on the weekend at the South Alabama Invitation. The Shockers defeated, Dartmouth, Bowling Green twice, and South Alabama.
Cacy Williams and Kelli spring led the team offensively with two hits apiece and
Katie Malone pitched her second straight complete game, giving up just three runs, zero of which were earned.
The Shockers got off to a hot start with
Kelli Spring leading off the bottom of the first with a single. Spring came around to score along with
Paige Luellen and
Liz Broyles, giving the Shockers an early 3-0 lead.
After a scoreless second inning, the Shockers stayed hot offensively and scored five runs, bringing 11 batters to the plate and collecting four hits.
Katie Malone continued to pitch well, holding the Falcons scoreless through four innings.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Shockers added three more runs on three hits, giving pushing the lead to 11-0 heading into the top of the fifth.
In the top of the fifth, the Falcons were able to push across three runs but were unable to eliminate the run-rule, giving the Shockers an 11-3 victory in five innings.
Wichita State is now 7-6 and will be in action again on Sat., March 5, as the Shockers travel to Lincoln, Neb., to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers in a three game series.
