Box Score (PDF)MOBILE, Ala. – Scoring all of their runs in the fifth inning, the Wichita State softball team defeated Dartmouth, 6-1 in the first game of the South Alabama Invitational.
Offensively, the Shockers were led by
Kelli Spring who collected three hits and reached base in all four at-bats.
Mackenzie Wright,
Paige Luellen,
Cassidy Kelsheimer and
Cacy Williams also collected one hit a piece.
Jenni Brooks received the win for the Shockers in the circle, throwing five innings and only giving up one hit while striking out three.
Dartmouth jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Wichita State struggled to get the offense going but were able to push across six runs in the top of the fifth inning after Williams led off the inning with a solo homerun.
The shockers collected four more hits in that inning, pushing the score to 6-1 by the end of the fifth inning.
Wichita State held strong for the final two innings, defeating Dartmouth 6-1.
Wichita State is now 5-6 overall and will be in action again tomorrow as the Shockers take on Bowling Green and South Alabama at 12:15 and 4:15 p.m.
