MOBILE, Ala. – Being aggressive on the base paths was the key to victory for the Shockers in day two of the South Alabama Invitational as Wichita State defeated Bowling Green, 9-4 and South Alabama, 3-0.

Wichita State started the day off aggressively stealing nine bases which is tied for the most in a single game in Shocker history with the only other time coming in 2004 against Marist College. Four of those stolen bases came from Mackenzie Wright. Wright was also tied for the team lead with three hits and two RBIs.

In the first game of the day, the Shockers played from behind again, giving up one run in the bottom of the second inning to give the Falcons an early 1-0 lead.

The Shockers quickly responded scoring two runs in the top of the third inning, scoring Kelli Spring and Brittany Fortner.

Wichita State wasted no time in the fourth adding to their lead, tacking on four more runs on five hits.

The Falcons were not done, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth and one run in the bottom of the fifth, but the Shockers stayed aggressive and added three runs in the top of the sixth to push the lead to 9-4 and give the Shockers the victory.

In the second game of the day, the Wichita State softball team took down South Alabama by score of 3-0.

Katie Malone pitched all seven innings for the Shockers, only giving up three hits and striking out two batters.

The Shockers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, scoring Brittany Fortner.

Both teams remained scoreless for three innings until Cassidy Kelsheimer hit a solo homerun in the top of the fifth inning.

Wichita State was able to tack on one more run in the sixth and Malone finished the game on the mound to give the Shockers a 3-0 victory and a sweep on the day.

The Shockers are now 7-6 overall and will be in action again tomorrow at 10 a.m., taking on Bowling Green in the last game before the team travels home.
