COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Wichita State women's tennis team, ranked 32nd in the latest Oracle/ITA Division I Rankings, defeated Missouri and BYU by scores of 4-2 and 4-0 on Thursday.

WSU (7-2) handed previously unbeaten Missouri (7-1) its first loss of the spring dual season, despite playing without Julia Schiller. No. 72 Gabriela Porubin picked up a win at the top spot, and Aleks Trifunovic and Abby Stevens added wins on courts four and five. Stevens' 6-4, 6-1 decision was the clincher.

Earlier in the day, the Shockers notched a neutral court win over BYU. Luca Pump and Giulia Guidetti won a crucial 7-5 decision on the third doubles court after the schools had split the other two matches, giving WSU the first point of the dual. Porubin rested during the singles portion, sliding the entire Shocker rotation up a notch in the order. They responded well, with Rebecca Pedrazzi, Guidetti and Trifunovic winning in straight-sets to clinch the overall victory.

"We deliberately play a competitive and difficult non-conference schedule to challenge ourselves and give us opportunities to continue moving up in the rankings," WSU head coach, Colin Foster said. "Both of today's opponents have strong enough teams to make their way into the top-75 and be significant wins. More importantly, though, we went on the road into a place where we lost handily last time and played composed tennis to get two wins - each without a top lineup player, as Gaby and Julia were both a little under the weather today."

The Shockers continue their journey this weekend, moving on to Lincoln, Neb. for a pair of Saturday duals. They'll face Nebraska at 11 a.m. CT, then take on Colorado State in a neutral site contest beginning at 5 p.m.
