Tournament CentralCOLUMBUS, Ohio - No. 71 Wichita State fell in its opening match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend to the ninth-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes Saturday morning, 4-0, at the Varsity Tennis Center.
The Shockers (3-1) will wrap up the ITA Kick-Off Weekend Sunday vs. the loser of No. 51 South Carolina and No. 52 Denver at 9 a.m. CT. Ohio State (4-0) will face the winner of South Carolina and Denver for a berth in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Charlottesville, Va.
Wichita State's 34th-ranked doubles team of
Miroslav Herzan and
Haru Inoue recorded the lone win for the Shockers at No. 2 doubles over No. 24 Mikael Torpegaard and Herkko Pollanen, 6-2. Herzan and Inoue are now 12-2 on the season in doubles and have recorded three top-30 wins this season.
Ohio State claimed the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles and then secured the match win with singles victories at Nos. 1, 2 and 6.
