WICHITA, Kan. -- Jon Meyer posted his first NCAA win, and Jocelyn Devilliers and Guillermo de Vilchez each extended long winning streaks to help the Wichita State men's tennis team to a 7-0 sweep of visiting Emporia State on the indoor courts at Genesis.
WSU (8-3) has won five of its last six matches.
Meyer outlasted Paddy Cameron in a super-tie breaker at No. 6 singles to preserve the shutout. After dropping the first set, 6-2, Meyer bounced back for a 6-3 win in the second, then carried that momentum into the tiebreaker, where he triumphed 10 points to 3.
Guillermo de Vilchez (7-2) and Devilliers (8-2) have each won six-straight singles matches. Both dropped just one game in straight-set victories at the third and fourth positions.
Sergio de Vilchez improved to 4-3 by making short work of Andrew David at the No. 5 spot, 6-3, 6-2.
At No. 2, Ilija Cuic downed Sebastian Heimbuger, 6-2, 6-2, while Tin Ostojic (ranked No. 61 nationally) improved to 15-4 at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph against Keenan Smith.
The nationally-ranked doubles combo of Ostojic and Tomislav Gregurovic took the day off. Ostojic teamed with Miroslav Herzan, instead, for a 6-1 win at No. 1, while Gregurovic and Meyer dropped a 7-5 decision at No. 3.
The Shockers won the doubles point, thanks to 6-2 win by Devilliers and Sergio de Vilchez at No. 2 doubles.
NCAA Division II, ESU (5-1) suffered its first dual loss.
WSU returns to the court on Tuesday for a 2:00 p.m. match against Texas-Arlington at Genesis.
