Postgame Press ConferenceWICHITA, Kan. – Four Shockers scored in double-figures to lead Wichita State to a 91-57 exhibition win over Hawaii Pacific Saturday afternoon at Charles Koch Arena.
Anton Grady led all WSU players with 13 points on 3-of-4 shooting from the field and 7-of-10 from the free throw line.
Ron Baker and
Ty Taylor II each scored 11 points, while Baker added four assists, three rebounds and two steals.
Landry Shamet finished with 10 points, four boards and two assists.

The Shockers shot 50 percent (29-for-58) from the field and 83.9 percent (26-for-31) from the free throw line, while holding the Sharks to just 34.5 percent (19-for-55) and 25.9 percent (7-for-27) from three point range. WSU outscored HPU in bench scoring 48-17 and 32-16 in the paint.
Joel Feigler led all scorers with 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 from behind the three point line to go with six rebounds for HPU.
Wichita State quickly expanded its halftime lead to 20 to begin the second half behind consecutive baskets from Grady and a three pointer from
Evan Wessel.
The five freshmen, Taylor II, Shamet,
Markis McDuffie,
Eric Hamilton and
Brett Barney, helped Wichita State put the game away midway through the second half, as WSU led 77-45. Taylor II scored all 11 of his points in the second half, while also playing solid defense and contributing a couple steals.
Hawaii Pacific jumped out to an early 10-3 lead to begin the game, but the Shockers responded with an 11-0 run to take a 14-10 lead. Baker then put together a stretch of consecutive baskets, a pair of free throws and an assist to McDuffie to give WSU a 26-15 lead at the eight-minute mark in the first half.
Zach Brown would give WSU its largest lead of the half to that point, 36-24, after back-to-back inside buckets. The lead extended to 15 at halftime with a score of 42-27.
Baker led all scorers at the break with nine points, while adding two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Grady and
Rashard Kelly each added seven points. The Shockers shot 48 percent (12-for-25) from the field in the first half and 80 percent (16-for-20) from the free throw line.
Luke Hager led a balanced scoring effort for the Sharks in the first half with six points. Feigler added five points and a team-best four rebounds. HPU finished 10-for-29 from the field, good for just 34.5 percent, and 3-for-11 (27.3 percent) from beyond the arc.
WSU will unveil banners for its latest MVC title and Sweet 16 appearance before its regular season opener against Charleston Southern, next Friday evening (7:00 pm CT) at Charles Koch Arena. Game will air on Cox Channel Kansas (Cox channel 22, HD 2022), in the Kansas City area on Time Warner Sports Channel, and outside of the CCK and Kansas City markets on ESPN3.com.
