WSU shot 44 percent (25-of-57) from the field, including 28 percent (7-for-25) from three-point range. CSU was held to 38 percent shooting (18-for-48) and 32 percent (8-for-25) from downtown.

The Shockers dominated the glass and bench points, outrebounding the Buccaneers, 48-29, and outscoring the CSU bench, 51-25.

Preseason All-American Ron Baker led WSU with 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field, while adding four rebounds and three assists. Playing in his first career game, Landry Shamet finished with 13 points, five boards and two assists on 3-of-8 shooting from the field and 5-for-6 from the free throw line. Demetrius Pollard led Charleston Southern with a game-high 20 points on 5-of-15 shooting from the field and a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Armel Potter and Patrick Wallace added 10 points.

The Shockers extended their halftime lead to, 60-42, at the midway point of the second half following a pair of free throws from Anton Grady and a three-pointer by Hamilton. That lead would grow to 22 at the four minute mark following baskets from Baker, Hamilton and Evan Wessel.

Both teams were sluggish out of the starting gate, as the two teams combined to pick up 18 fouls in the first seven minutes. The two teams combined for 37 fouls by halftime.

After the Shockers missed their first six attempts from beyond the arc, Baker gave WSU a 20-13 lead on a three-pointer from the top of the key nearly midway through the first half. Taylor II's first career basket gave WSU a 24-16 lead at the 8:49 mark to give the Shockers some breathing room.

Wichita State took an 11-point lead, its largest of the game to that point, into the final media timeout of the first half following a pair of free throws and an and-1 by Hamilton. A long two from Taylor II with 24 seconds left gave WSU a 42-30 lead at the break.

Baker and Shamet went into the locker room with eight points apiece to lead WSU. Shamet also tied for a team-best four rebounds. Hamilton and Rashard Kelly added seven points apiece. Wallace and Aaron Wheeler led CSU with eight points.
