CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Wichita State's Nikki Larch-Miller continued on Saturday what she started on Friday by winning the 60 meter hurdles in the second-best time in school history and anchoring the winning 4x400 meter relay at the UNI Team Invitational today.
WSU's women won four of the 15 events contested today, while the men won three of the 15 events. Both teams finished the meet second to Indiana State, and in front of UNI and Drake in the quadrangular at the UNI-Dome.
"I was proud of both our men and women's team this weekend," Rainbolt said. "We were operating at partial strength because we were resting our distance runners in preparation for races next week at Notre Dame.
"We had a lot of terrific performances and competed well. We don't want to lose to Indiana State, but in this situation we come away from this meet confident we can compete head-to-head at the MVC meet in four weeks.
"Our multi-event athletes competed well in their only mid-season competition and appear to be poised to make a strong contribution at the MVC meet. We feel good about this next step in the indoor season."
On Friday, Larch-Miller won the Pentathlon as the Shockers swept the event with her effort, along with Breanne Borman and Jenny Pinkston, whose point totals will rank in the Top 11 in the country when they are submitted with the conversion for a flat track on Monday.
Today, Larch-Miller's time of 8.42 in the final of the 60-meter hurdles won the race, while Shanice Andrews' time of 8.74 placed her in third.
WSU's 4x400 meter relay team, anchored by Larch-Miller, won the event with a time of 3:49.19. The Shockers' Emilea Finley also won the Mile Run and the 3,000 meters with a time of 5:04.23 and 10:04.56, respectively. Kayla Deighan finished third in the Mile Run and the 3,000-meters.
The Shocker women also finished second and third in the long jump with Jenny Pinkston's jump of 5.58 meters and Breanne Borman's jump of 5.54 meters.
