Box Score TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Wichita State used Dayne Parker's two-run home run in the top of the ninth to defeat Evansville in an elimination game 8-6 on day two of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.
Chase Simpson went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles and a triple, while Dayne Parker went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a home run.
Starter A.J. Ladwig went 7.2 innings and gave up six runs on eight hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
Chase Simpson led off the top of the second inning with a double off the left field wall and scored on a one-out single to left field from Daniel Kihle to give the Shockers a 1-0 lead.
The Aces came back to take the lead in the bottom of the second. With two outs, Eric McKibban walked and Shain Showers hit a home run to left field to give the Aces a 2-1 lead.
The Shockers answered with two runs in the fourth. Casey Gillaspie led off with a walk and he scored on a triple off the left-centerfield wall from Simpson to tie the score at two. Simpson scored on a suicide squeeze from Kihle to give the Shockers a 3-2 lead.
UE retook the lead in the fifth inning. With one out, Showers and Jarod Perry both singled and Josh Jyawook walked to load the bases. A two-run single from Jake Mahon put the Aces back on top 4-3.
The Shockers again responded with three runs in the seventh. Erik Harbutz led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Tanner Kirk. After a walk to Tanner Dearman, Dayne Parker's two-out single to left field drove in Harbutz to tie the score at four. After an intentional walk to Gillaspie, Simpson doubled just over the shortstop's glove to drive in Dearman and Parker and give the Shockers a 6-4 lead.
The Aces stormed back in the eighth. Mahon singled with one out and with two outs, Kyle Pollock homered to right-center to tie the score at six.
Again the Shockers answered. In the top of the ninth, Garrett Bayliff led off with a single and Parker homered to left field to give the Shockers an 8-6 lead.
The Shockers will next play at 8 a.m. (Central) on Thurs., May 22 against the loser of the Illinois State/Southern Illinois game.
