Shockers Fall in Midweek Finale

WICHITA, Kan. – #11-ranked Kansas struck for five runs in the second inning and three more in the third to pull away early in a 14-1 win over Wichita State on Tuesday night at Eck Stadium.
 
The game was called after eight innings by the 10-run rule.
 
The Jayhawks (34-11) extended their winning streak to seven straight games, banging out 15 hits. Six hitters in the Kansas lineup notched multiple hits and the Jayhawks combined to draw nine walks.
 
Wichita State (26-20) committed four errors and left 11 runners on base.
 
Kansas opened the scoring in the second inning with a pair of run-scoring doubles. Dariel Osoria plated the first run with a two-bagger down the left field line, then three batters later Cade Baldridge emptied the bases with a two-run double of his own, plus a WSU error that scored a third run on the play. Baldridge later came across on a wild pitch to cap off the five-run frame.
 
Bach and Baldridge knocked in three more runs in the third with consecutive two-out singles, extending the lead to 8-0.
 
Owen Washburn knocked home Wichita State's lone run of the night with an RBI single in the bottom of the third.
 
Kansas activated the run rule with a four-run top of the eighth, highlighted by a two-run double from Dylan Schlotterback.
 
Starter Dax Sharp (0-3) took the loss for Wichita State, working a scoreless first before allowing the five-run second.
 
Carter Fink (1-1) notched the win in relief for Kansas, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings out of the Jayhawks bullpen.
 
Jaden Gustafson led the Shockers offensively with a perfect 3-for-3 night, notching two doubles.
 
The Shockers are back in action on Friday night at UTSA. First pitch of the series opener from San Antonio is scheduled for 6:00 pm CT.
