WICHITA, Kan. – No. 69 Wichita State won 5-2 in their dual-match against Air Force on Saturday inside the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex at WSU's campus in Wichita. Saturday's win improved the Shockers to 10-6 and was the sixth victory in their last seven contests. Air Force fell to 12-3 on the year.
Doubles play began when No. 69 Wichita State's Tomislav Gregurovic/Tin Ostojic defeated Alex Grubbs/Jack McCullers of Air Force by an 8-6 score at No. 1 doubles. Ilija Cuic/Jocelyn Devilliers gave the Shockers the 1-0 dual-match lead when they won 8-7(7) over Grant Taylor/Lucas Fumagalli in the No. 2 doubles slot.
While the doubles point was already clinched, Guillermo Nicol/Guillermo de Vilchez finished the doubles sweep for the Shockers when they earned an 8-4 win against Ali Rizvi/Andrew Parks at No. 3 doubles.
Ostojic (No. 20 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Central Singles Rankings) was the first off the court in singles play when he beat Andy Jackson 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles to give No. 69 Wichita State a 2-0 dual-match lead. Gregurovic increased the Shocker lead to 3-0 after his 6-2, 6-3 win over McCullers at No. 3 singles.
No. 69 Wichita State pushed their dual-match lead to 4-0 after Nicol earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles against Fumagalli. Parks then gave Air Force their first point of the dual-match, defeating Devilliers 6-4, 6-4.
Grubbs cut the Shocker dual-match lead to 4-2 when he won 6-3, 7-6(2) in his No. 4 singles match against de Vilchez. Cuic took care of Young 7-6(3), 6-7(7), 10-6 to give the Shockers their 5-2 dual-match victory while at the No. 1 singles spot.
No. 69 Wichita State will be back in action on Wednesday, March 19 when they compete against No. 7 Texas in Austin, Texas at 6 p.m. during the beginning of a three dual-match state of Texas road trip.
