WTen: Shocks Grab 4-3 Win Over Bulldogs

DES MOINES, Iowa- Junior Carla Venticinque clinched the Wichita State women's tennis team's third MVC victory of the season on Sunday by taking down Jordan Eggleston of Drake, 6-1, 6-4.

“Carla's had an injury-plagued season and for her to win her singles today is a good sign,” head coach Colin Foster said.

The Shockers won the doubles point over Drake when Rebecca Pedrazzi and Venticinque defeated Maddie Johnson and Lea Kozulic, 8-1, and Montse B.lasco Fernandez and Satjapron Mahajaroenkul defeated Mariel Ante and Ali Patterson, 8-3.

Before Venticinque captured her match to clinch the victory, Rebecca Pedrazzi defeated Klavdija Rebol in straight sets at the No. 1 position, 6-2, 6-2, and Julia Schiller took down Lea Kozulic, 6-2, 6-0.

“Becky and Julia, as freshman, to both win their singles very quickly today is a good sign not only for the rest of the season, but also for the future of this program,” added Foster.

It was a solid weekend, and the final score today is not indicative of the strong tennis we played. We certainly still have some areas of improvement going into the last few weeks of the season, but I feel great about this team going down the stretch.”

The Shocker women will finally head back to the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex after playing seven consecutive matches on the road. They will welcome Illinois State and Bradley on April 13 and 14, respectively.
