ARLINGTON, Texas- Wichita State won their first of seven straight road matches on Thursday against the University of Texas-Arlington 4-1 at the UTA Tennis Center.

The Shockers went up 1-0 when Veronika Blaskova and Julia Schiller defeated Brook Dennis and Elizabeth Thoms, 8-1, and Rebecca Pedrazzi and Carla Venticinque defeated Giada D'ortona and Verena Scott, 8-6 in doubles play.

Pedrazzi, Schiller and Montse Blasco Fernandez got wins in singles play to seal the match. Pedrazzi defeated Katarina Dikosavljevic, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 1 position and Blasco Fernandez took down Verena Scott, 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 4 position. Schiller, playing at No. 2 singles for the first time, defeated Brook Dennis, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.

"It was very windy in our first outdoor match in over a month, and I told the team they were going to need to be mentally tough and win ugly at times," head coach Colin Foster said. "Across the board we competed so well."

It was great fight and determination at all three doubles and all six singles," added Foster. "We've got a day off tomorrow and we have another tough match on Saturday."

The Shocker women will stay in Texas and head to Fort Worth for a battle against No. 19 TCU on Saturday. The match will begin at 10 a.m.
