WICHITA, Kan.- Wichita State fell 7-3 in game one of its doubleheader against Illinois State on Saturday at Eck Stadium.

Kris Gardner took the loss for the Shockers, pitching five innings and allowing three runs on six hits. Parker Zimmerman went 1-for-3 at the plate with a RBI. Joe Haddox went 2-for-3.

Dan Savas got the win for Illinois State, allowing two runs on four hits in seven innings.

Brett Kay led off the game for Illinois State with a triple to deep left-center, and Chad Hinshaw plated him in the next at-bat with a sacrifice fly to right field. Mike Hollenbeck put the Redbirds up 2-0 later in the inning with a single that scored Zac Johnson.

After Garrett Bayliff and Dayne Parker hit back-to-back singles in the bottom of the second, Zimmerman hit the third straight base knock for the Shockers to score Bayliff from second base and cut the Redbird lead to 2-1.

Johnson stretched the lead back to two with a solo homerun in the top of the third for Illinois State.

The Redbirds added two more runs in the sixth. A single by Sean Beesley scored Daniel Dwyer, and Joe Kelch also scored on the play on a throwing error from Wichita State center fielder Tanner Dearman to put Illinois State up, 5-1.

Wichita State scored a run on an Erick Harbutz groundout that plated Zimmerman in the seventh inning.

Illinois State sealed the game with two runs in it's half of the eighth.
