WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita
State scored early and often on the way to their fifth straight conference
victory defeating Drake, 70-51, Monday evening in Charles Koch Arena.
Kelsey Jacobs hit 7-of-9 field goal attempts to lead a trio
of Shockers in double figures, tying a career high with 14 points. Jessica
Diamond also pitched in 14 and Alex Harden scored 11 points to go along with a
career-high eight assists.
Ashley Bartow collected 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting to pace
Drake (5-12, 0-6). Kyndal Clark added 12 but shot a mere 4-for-20 from the
field.
Wichita State (11-6, 5-0) opened the game on a 13-2 run on
their way to shooting 64 percent from the field in the first half. The Shockers
led by as many as 22 points following Michaela Dapprich's jumper from the free
throw line with 5:17 remaining in the half.
Wichita State scored 15 points off of 13 Drake turnovers and
held the edge in the paint outscoring the Bulldogs 24-18 to take a 44-29 lead
into halftime.
Diamond and Jacobs each scored eight points while Harden,
Jasmine Jones, and Dapprich tallied 6 points each, respectively.
The Shockers maintained their double digit lead throughout
the second half outscoring Drake, 26-22, and never letting the Bulldogs closer
than 15. Drake shot 22 percent in the second half.
Wichita State finished the game shooting 58 percent from the
field and had a 40-26 advantage on points in the paint.
The Shockers are next in action Fri., Jan. 25 when they
travel to Carbondale, Ill. to take on Southern Illinois at 7:05 p.m.
