LINCOLN, Neb.-Wichita State Track and Field hit
the road for the first time in the 2013 season to compete in the Adidas
Classic. The women's team placed second with 100 points, while the men's team
took fourth place overall with a score of 61.66 points.
"I am
pleased with performances by our athletes across the board today,"remarked Head
Coach Steve Rainbolt. "I was particularly pleased with our women's team. They
were projected to finish third behind Iowa and they were able to battle ahead
of them with a second place finish."
Jeff Conner
(60-9.25) scored the first points of the day for the Shockers with a second
place finish in the weight throw. He shattered his personal best in the event
by 8.25 inches. Conner has set a new benchmark for himself in both Shocker
meets this season.
In the
women's 5000m, Laura Burke (18:29.57) claimed Wichita State's first win of the
day. The senior captain beat her closest competition by over a minute.
Newcomer Chris
Burnett (15:12.97) broke her personal best in the men's 5,000m to earn his first
win as a Shocker. Teammate Justin Scott (15:28.57) finished second in the
event, setting a new personal record as well.
Aliphine
Tuliamuk-Bolton (4:53.38) took second in the women's mile with a new personal
record. The bests continued in the men's mile where Tomas Cotter (4:09.89)
finished in second with a new PR. Jake Wike (4:10.87) placed fourth in the
race.
Natalie
Morerod (8.63) started her day off with a second place finish in the 60m
hurdles. Shanice Andrews (8.72) placed fourth in the event.
Morerod
continued her success on the track by winning the women's 600m run with a solid
time of 1:33.57. The junior also ran the first leg of the Shockers 4x400m relay
team that took third place with a time of 3:52.12.
Shamoya
Pruitt's 7.62 was good enough for a second place finish in the women's 60m dash.
J'Lynn Ledesma (5-9.25)ranked second in a tightly contested women's Long Jump.
In the men's
shot put, Chris Dubree (54-04.75) took third place. Adam Esau (51-0.25)
improved his seasonal best in this event by over a foot to place seventh.
Ryan Hocker
(1:53.84) narrowly missed victory by .02 seconds in the men's 800m run. He
settled for second, while teammate Kelvin Busienei (1:55.72) finished fifth in
the race.
In the
women's 3,000m Kaitlyn McLeod eclipsed her previous best by over 27 seconds.
McLeod has now set a new PR in each meet this season. Samantha Shukla
(10:03.89) finished fourth in the race and posted a personal best as well.
The final
event to conclude the meet for the Shockers was the women's triple jump.
Andrews (38-0.75) jumped to a second place finish, while Courtney Reinke
(37-07.25) placed fourth in the event.
Some
Shockers competed in a meet Friday at Nebraska Wesleyan. Mackenzie Maki bested
her indoor mile from last week by over eight seconds.
In the men's
mile, Robbie Martinez-Garcia beat his personal best by over four seconds. Marrisa Harris finished
second in the women's 800m run.

The Shockers
return to the track on Friday, January 25th, when the team will
travel to Lawrence to compete in the Kansas Invitational. Wichita
State will also send athletes to the UW Invitational.
WSU returns home Friday, Feb.1 and Saturday,
Feb. 2 for the Varsity Apartments Invitational at the Heskett Center.
