WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita Sate men's tennis team will
travel to Carbondale, Ill. for a contest against Southern
Illinois. It will be their first conference match of the season.
Southern Illinois (5-10) will also being
playing their first conference match of the season. They are coming off a pair
of 4-0 losses on April 1st against Florida Atlantic and Austin Peay.
Last year, the Salukis finished in fourth place in the Missouri Valley
Conference with a record of 3-4 and an overall record of 11-8.
The Wichita State Shockers (11-4) are coming
off a 7-0 win against Washburn on March 31st. In conference play
last year, the Shockers finished in second place for the Missouri Valley
Conference season. With his singles win against Bobby Florence of Washburn,
Guillermo Nicol extended his winning streak to nine matches. Junior Matheus
Pereira has a winning streak of eight singles matches. Both Nicol and Pereira
have won nine out of their last ten singles contests.
After Saturday, the Shockers will continue their
conference season in a home match against Bradley on April 14th.
