NORMAN, Okla. – The Wichita State men's tennis team begins competition at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Championships on Wednesday at Oklahoma's Headington Family Tennis Center.

The tournament marks the first team event of the fall season for the Shockers. So far, Alejandro Jacome is the only WSU player to have competed this fall, playing at the ITA All-American Championships last month.

Singles qualifying begins Wednesday. Zaid Al Mashni and Amir Milushev will compete for spots in the main draw, and both received first-round byes. They are scheduled to play at 11:30 a.m. CT against opponents to be determined.

Jacome, Ilias Worthington, Luke Bracks, and Pablo Roche Alcaya all earned automatic bids into the main draw, which starts Thursday.

Doubles play also begins Thursday, with pairings and matchups to be announced.
Worthington enters the tournament fresh off a singles title at the Pro Tennis Tour (PTT) Norman event last week, which was held at Headington Family Tennis Center.

The two singles finalists from each regional automatically qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship, while the doubles champion advances to the NCAA Doubles Championship. Spots in ITA sectionals are also available to those who fall short of NCAA bids.
