Box Score WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita State closed out a three-game
baseball series against Missouri State Sunday with a 3-2 win at Eck Stadium.
Wichita State pitcher Kris Gardner threw seven shutout
innings, striking out four, allowing zero walks and five hits to improve to 4-1
on the season. Cale Elam was credited with the save for Wichita State.
Shocker freshman left fielder Mikel Mucha led all players
with a game-high three hits, as Wichita State improved to 24-19 overall and 6-6
in the Missouri Valley Conference.
The Bears took the first two games of the weekend series,
but fell to 29-12 overall and 8-3 in conference play in front of a crowd of 3,227
Sunday.
Wichita State took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Erik
Harbutz scored on Don Lambert's flyout to left field and Mucha scored on Johnny
Coy's RBI double to right center.
Tyler Baker's RBI double scored Dayne Parker for a 3-0 Shocker lead
in the fourth inning.
The Bears broke through the shutout in the eighth inning.
Dylan Becker scored on Brent Seifert's flyout to right field for Missouri
State's first run of the game. Helms later scored on Luke Voit's single through
the left side to cut the Shockers' lead to 3-2.
The Shockers next play at Kansas State at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday
in a game that can be seen on Kansas 22. Wichita State then returns home for a
three-game non-conference series against Dallas Baptist April 27-29.
