Goodyear, Ariz. - Rafael Becker continued an exceptional
week with his second-straight round of 68 on Friday at the 2012 Desert Shootout. Becker is in third place, four strokes
off the lead, and Wichita State is in third place as a team, as well, with the
final round to come on Saturday.
The Shockers won the UCF Rio Pinar Invitational in Orlando,
Fla. on Tuesday then traveled to Arizona for the Desert Shootout, hosted by
Denver University at the Palm Valley Golf Course. Wichita State shaved two strokes off its score on Friday to
card a 281 and sit two strokes back of Denver for second place.
Becker scored another round of 68 to remain in the top
three. He is 8-under (68-68=136)
for the tournament and trails San Diego's Alex Ching (64-68=132) and first
place BYU's Justin Keiley (67-65=132) by four strokes.
Earlier in the week, Becker placed second at the Rio Pinar Invitational.
Freshman Louis Cohen Boyer also represents the Shockers in the
Top 10. Boyer is tied for ninth at
4-under (68-72=140). Hunter Sparks
carded a 69 on Friday to pull into a tie for 18th at 2-under
(73-69=142).
The final round begins Saturday morning with an 8:30 a.m. CDT
shotgun start.
