Friesen Opens Day One at NCAA Finals

DES MOINES, Ia. -- Sophomore Tanya Friesen competed during the first day of the heptathlon at the NCAA Finals as the Buhler, Kan., native went up against 23 other athletes vying for all-American honors.

Friesen scored her biggest point total of the day in one of her top events as she collected 901 points in the 100m hurdles, clocking in at 14.56.  Friesen added another 736 points in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5' 3".  

She will enter the second day with a total of 2,941 points.

Ryann Krais leads the field with 3,585 points.

Friesen and Aliphine Tuliamuk will compete tomorrow, Friday, June 10, with Tuliamuk competing in the women's 5,000-meter run.
