Las Vegas,
Nevada - The Wichita State Shockers
(5-4, 1-0) dropped a 5-1 shortened match on Sunday against the No. 35 UNLV
Rebels (7-1). The match started with
singles matches due to time constraints and doubles matches were not played
once the singles results decided the match.
"UNLV played very well," head coach Colin Foster said, "Give them credit; we know we're a good team
and we'll work hard to get better so the next time we play a team of this
caliber we have the strength and confidence to pull out some of those close
sets."
Delia Damaschin earned the Shocks point with her defeat of
Jana Albers, 7-6, 3-6, 10-8. Freshman
Veronika Blaskova dropped her first match of the spring with her loss to Nives
Pavlovic, 6-2, 6-3.
"Delia has had a bit of a rough stretch with some close
losses," Foster said. "She did a great
job to keep composed in another tight match and raise her level of play just
enough at the key moments. I was very
proud of her composure and resilience today."
Next action for the Shockers will be Saturday, February 26
when they host No. 73 Wyoming
and Texas-Arlington.
