TULSA, Okla. - Wichita State won five matches on Saturday in
day two of the 2011 USTA/ITA Regional Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
Veronika Blaskova and Lucia Kovalova started the day with a
big victory over the #3 seeded team of Madeline Geibert and Stefanie Weinstein
of Nebraska, 9-8(1). The pair
advanced to face #6 seeded Whitney Ritchie and Marie-Pier Huet of Oklahoma in
the quarterfinals. Blaskova and
Kovalova both of Slovakia battled but fell to the Sooners, 8-5.
In consolation singles matches, Valerie Brockman won two
matches and she will play again tomorrow morning. Blaskova blanked Annemijn Koenen of Missouri, 6-0, 6-0 in
her first match today and earned a default win over Kate Lukomskaya of Arkansas
and she will join Brockman on Sunday with another match.
The tournament is a regional individual championship and is
a qualifier for the USTA/ITA National Individual Championship, which is held
Nov. 4-7 at the USTA/Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York,
N.Y.
