NEWTON, Kan. - The Shockers battled windy conditions during
the first round of the 2010 Shocker Invitational to lead the tournament with a
team score of 302. WSU holds
an eleven shot lead over second place, Eastern Washington AT 313.
Three of the Shocks sit in the Top-10, led by tournament
leader Gretchen Huhnerkoch who shot a career best even par-72. Sophomore Natalie Samb fired a career
best one-over par 73 and sits alone in second place. Senior Adin Stromgren carded a 76, good for a T-5th
place.
"Decent round, Natalie and Gretchen really played well, Adin
had some opportunities get away from her but still managed to shoot a 76," said
head coach Tom McCurdy. "We left
some shots out there today when the conditions were very score able but we
wanted to be in the final pairing going into the final round and we achieved
that goal."
Competing as an individual for the Shockers sophomore Hannah
Martin shot an 80 and is tied for T-17th on the leaderboard. WSU seniors Lauren Hassell and Abby
Bartlett carded an 81 and 85, respectively.
Tuesday's final round at Sand Creek Station will start at
8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
