ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Wichita State men's tennis team dropped its third-straight match in a 5-2 loss to No. 75 New Mexico State Saturday afternoon inside the Randy Briggs Indoor Tennis Bubble in Albuquerque.
The Aggies swept a highly-contested doubles compeition, and took the early advantage by winning the doubles point. In the No. 1 match, the Aggie tandem of Roman Stoisavljevic and Eduardo Salas defeated WSU's Vlad Marinescu and Adrian Chermaci, 8-6. New Mexico State's Jim Brouleau and Arthur Surreaux won the No. 2 match with an 8-5 decision over WSU's Michal Zawadzki and Jonathan Obrist, while David Cavalcanti and Matt Teivans dropped the No. 3 match by an identical 8-5 count to Gustave Diep and Stefan McKinney.
Jonathan Obrist and David Cavalcanti were responsible for each of WSU's points in the match. Obrist picked up a straight-set, 6-3, 6-3 win over Roman Stoisavljevic in the No. 3 match, while Cavalcanti downed Arthur Surreaux in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, to win the No. 4 match.
Vlad Marinescu dropped the No. 1 match to Jim Brouleau in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, while Adrian Chermaci fell in three sets in the No. 2 match, losing 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 to Gustave Diep. Matt Teivans and Scott McCormick rounded out the Shocker scorecard. Teivans dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Matej Stakne in the No. 5 match, while McCormick fell to Eduardo Salas in three sets, 2-6, 6-0, 7-5.
Wichita State is back in action Tuesday when they take the courts opposite North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.
