WICHITA, Kan. -- Wichita State junior Torrie Browning has been awarded the 2008 ITA Central Region's Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship. Browning is now eligible for the National Arthur Ashe Award.
Browning played most of this season in the No. 5 singles position for the Shockers, who finished second in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Tucson, Ariz., native finished her junior season with an overall singles record of 19-13, while posting a 17-12 record in doubles play, playing primarily with Shocker sophomore Florentina Hanisch.
Other regional winners of the Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship include Katrina Elder-Bush (Rutgers), Amanda Taylor (Vanderbilt), Kristi Miller (Georgia Tech), Erin Jobe (Wisconsin), Tiffany Clifford (Texas A&M), Ekaterina Burduli (Washington State) and Elizabeth Lumpkin (UCLA).
