WICHITA, Kan. -- The No. 47 Wichita State women's tennis team will travel for Florida Saturday for a match with No. 10 Miami in a re-match of last year's NCAA second round regional match. Saturday's match is slated for a noon start.
Wichita State was ranked 47th in the latest ITA poll, which was released Wednesday. After never being ranked in school history, the Shockers have now been ranked in each of the last 20 ITA polls, and have been in the top-50 for each of the last 16 polls. Individually, Stephanie Dalmacio dropped out of the national rankings, but was replaced by the Shocker doubles tandem of Florentina Hanisch and Lenore Lazaroiu; the second time Hanisch has been ranked in doubles in her career, and the first for Lazaroiu.
The Hurricanes, meanwhile, feature four nationally-ranked players on their eight-woman roster. They are led by 14th-ranked Laura Vallverdu, while Bianca Eichkorn is ranked 62nd. Michaela Kissell and Romy Farah are ranked 70th and 80th, respectively.
The Shockers picked up their first win of the season Friday in a 5-2 decision over Big 12 foe Oklahoma, and currently stand at 1-2 on the season. Miami, meanwhile, is 6-2 on the year, and is ranked 10th in the nation.
Wichita State is 0-1 all-time against the Hurricanes, with the only other meeting coming last year when the Hurricanes cruised to a 4-0 win in the second round of the NCAA regionals in Coral Gables, Fla.
