SACRAMENTO, Calif. -
Chandra Andrews and Kellyn Johnson competed in the preliminary rounds
of their respected events at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National
Championships.
Senior
Chandra Andrews wrapped up her Shocker career after competing in the
women's hammer throw event. Andrews finished the preliminary round in
25th place after tossing 181-0. The Liberal native reached her first
national championship after winning the Midwest Regional hammer throw.
Also
making her first appearance at the national championships, junior
Kellyn Johnson competed in the women's 5,000m race for the Shockers.
The Milwaukee, Wis., native has held a top 15 national ranking in
the event throughout the season, but finished the 5K in 16:45.82, which
placed her in 26th, not high enough to move on to the final round.
Although
Andrews' time at Wichita State is complete, Johnson will return next
season to join fellow juniors Chelsie Baldwin, Kimber Lemon and Mica
Land in their quest for their third-straight Missouri Valley Conference
cross country championship. The cross country season will begin in
early september with the Shockers home meet, the J.K. Gold Classic.
