CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Wichita State (25-25, 11-7) shut out Northern Iowa (16-22, 3-8), 7-0, in game one before falling 10-5 in game two.

After Shocker pitcher Margo Pruis tossed her second consecutive complete-game shutout of the Panthers in the opener, holding UNI to just two hits, the Panthers' bats came alive in the nightcap and snapped the Shockers' season-high seven-game win streak.

Game One

Wichita State jumped to an early lead in the first inning and never looked back en route to the 7-0 shut out in game one.

Cynthia Verhulst powered out a three-run homerun in the top of the first, bringing in Britnee Barnett and Brooke Usher who had both reached on singles.

The Shockers added one in the third with a solo homerun over center field by Barnett.

WSU capped the game with three more runs in the seventh. With the bases loaded, Katie McGeeney singled to left field driving in one and Usher and Barnett hit sacrifice fly balls to bring in two runs.

Barnett was a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Verhulst and Kara L'Huillier added two hits each, with Verhulst contributing three RBI.

Margo Pruis (16-11) threw the complete game, giving up just two hits and three walks while striking out eight.

Game Two

Wichita State again scored first in game two, but Northern Iowa was able to come back and down the Shockers, 10-5.

Barnett hit her second home run of the day to give the Shockers a one run lead in the first. Back-to-back singles from McGeeney and Usher started the third inning. With two outs, Lisa Jones singled up the middle to bring in McGeeney and Erin Peters followed with a two-run double down the left field line to make it 4-0.

Northern Iowa finally broke through, scoring its first runs of the day in the bottom of the third. The Panthers cut the lead in half on two singles and a Shocker error.

The Shockers got one back in the fourth with two outs. Jones singled in Usher who had reached on a fielder's choice.

The Panthers clawed back to scratch out their first lead by putting up four runs in the bottom half. UNI added insurance with two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.

Barnett (4-4) was tagged with the loss, allowing six runs, four earned runs on six hits. Shocker starter Ashly Bright went two innings and struck out two. Pruis finished the final 2.1 innings, giving up four earned runs on four hits and three walks.
